In cases where many or all the teeth have been damaged or extracted, we have several options to restore function and appearance to the smile. At Rejuvenation Dental Studio, our Falls Church dentist, Dr. Dang, helps patients regain confidence in their smiles by offering full and partial dentures. This traditional, cost-effective solution is made to precisely fit each smile while closely resembling natural teeth.
At our Falls Church dental practice, patients have the option to choose between both complete and partial dentures depending on the condition of their mouth and their specific needs.
Partial Dentures are used when patients still have some healthy teeth remaining in the mouth. By filling the gaps left behind by missing teeth, partial dentures can help prevent the shifting of any remaining teeth. This partial denture, like the complete denture, is removable and fixed to an acrylic base which is made to match the color of your gums – giving it a natural look. Additionally, it’s attached to your existing teeth through a clasp which helps keep the denture in place but allows it to be removed.
Complete Dentures are the traditional and widely used appliances that help treat extensive tooth loss. Complete dentures are very popular and have been used for years. However, when considering complete dentures there are two options in regards to their creation and placement.
Known as conventional and immediate dentures, these options allow an individual to choose when they’ll be placed. Conventional dentures are those which are made after all teeth in the mouth have been extracted, if needed, and the tissue has healed – allowing for a good fit to be made. Whereas immediate dentures are made before a tooth extraction procedure and are immediately ready for use.
Immediate dentures are a good option for patients who don’t want to be without teeth while their gum tissue heals. Although these dentures allow for a quick solution, patients may need to return to see Dr. Dang for an adjustment once their mouth has healed.
Process
Dentures are custom made to fit every patient which allows for a comfortable and natural fit. To provide a successful denture, the process can take a few weeks to complete. Various appointments may be needed to ensure that our Falls Church dentist has the right measurements, accurate molds, color, shape, and fit.
Once your treatment has been completed and you’ve been properly fitted for your denture, you may experience some side effects from the new denture including:
- Increase in saliva flow
- Soreness
- Chewing difficulty
- Speech difficulty
However, whatever discomfort you feel should only be temporary and should subside as your mouth becomes accustomed to the denture.
